Linear Vernier generators
چکیده :
Permanent magnet (PM) Vernier machines are highly attractive for low-speed, direct-drive applications due to their magnetic gearing effect, which delivers high thrust density without a mechanical gearbox. However, optimizing the magnet arrangement is crucial for maximizing performance and mitigating undesirable forces. This paper presents a systematic performance analysis and direct comparison of linear PM Vernier generators featuring various magnet topologies. Specifically, the existing surface-mounted consequent-pole, Halbach consequent-pole, and V-shaped consequent-pole arrangements are compared with a newly proposed U-shaped consequent-pole PM topology. All generator designs are modeled and analyzed using the finite element analysis method, ensuring an equivalent volume of active materials for a fair comparison. The no-load performance characteristics, including back-electromotive force, cogging force, and normal force, are evaluated for each design. The results demonstrate that the proposed topology achieves significantly better overall performance compared to the existing topologies, validating its potential for highly efficient and robust linear direct-drive applications.
