چکیده :
Electric motors are ubiquitous in modern society, powering many devices and systems. Electric motors, from household appliances to industrial machinery, are crucial daily. This paper thoroughly compares the dynamic performance of brushless DC motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors under various operating scenarios. The main objective is to evaluate their performance concerning total harmonic distortion, torque control, torque ripple, starting current, and speed tracking. Three combinations were considered: variable speed and constant torque, constant torque with variable speed, and variable speed and torque. Data from experiments and simulations were gathered to evaluate the effectiveness of both motor types in each scenario. The results show that PMSM motors perform better on average regarding torque control smoothness, torque ripple reduction, and speed tracking stability. These benefits are augmented by their precise rotor position control, lower switching noise, and sinusoidal back EMF. BLDC motors, however, might be more appropriate in situations where torque ripple is not a significant concern and more significant beginning currents are acceptable. Because of its accurate speed control, smooth torque output, and low torque ripple, PMSM motors perform exceptionally well in the variable speed and torque scenario. Compared to BLDC motors, they also show reduced THD in speed, torque, and starting current. This study offers valuable information for choosing the best motor technology for various applications while considering cost, operating circumstances, and performance criteria. Based on simulation results, it is observed that PMSM has a lower torque ripple than BLDC in terms of smoother commutation and sinusoidal back EMF.
