چکیده :
Transportation costs of mineral products have a significant impact on their final price; therefore, the reliability of the diesel–electric propulsion systems of mining dump trucks is of special importance, whose most critical subsystem is the alternator excitation system. Given the space and weight constraints in these vehicles, integrated excitation systems are of considerable interest. In this paper, the windings employed in such systems on a 3.8KVA alternator have been studied, and to overcome the limitations of previous structures, a three-phase tertiary winding has been proposed. Two-dimensional FEM results show that, without increasing the machine volume and with a slot fill factor of 0.4, the required excitation power can be supplied by this winding. Moreover, the output-voltage THD equals 2.44%, indicating that the alternator’s output-voltage quality is preserved in the presence of this winding. These results indicate that an integrated self-excitation system with a three-phase tertiary winding is a compact and industrial solution for mining dump trucks.
